Minnesota employers not subject to federal minimum wage requirements may pay an employee under 20 years of age a wage of $4.90 per hour during the first 90 consecutive days of employment. Minn. Stat. § 177.24, subd. 1(c) The minimum wage does not apply to persons under the age of 18 who are

  1. doing certain agricultural work; or
  2. employed part- time by a municipality as part of a recreational program.

The minimum wage also does not apply to any person engaged in babysitting as a sole practitioner. Minn. Stat. § 177.23, subd. 7 (3), (4), (12), (14)
