When it comes to SEO (Search Engine Optimization), businesses are always looking for ways to improve their online visibility and attract more customers to their website. One common question that arises in this context is whether adding words to the end of a business name can improve its search engine ranking. In this article, we will explore this question in more detail and provide some insights into how businesses can optimize their name for SEO.
Adding words to the end of a company name can affect SEO positively and negatively; it is crucial to understand this. Adding keywords to the end of a name can, on the one hand, help firms rank higher for those particular keywords. For instance, a company called “ABC Inc.” may score higher for queries relating to “consulting services” if it added the word “consulting” to the end of its name.
There could be drawbacks to this strategy, though. One reason is that adding words to a company name’s end might make it longer and harder to recall. Customers may become confused as a result, or they may have trouble finding the company online. Additionally, search engines may penalize a company’s rating if they determine that it has added too many keywords to its name.
So, what is the best approach to optimizing a business name for SEO? Here are some tips:
- Choose a name that reflects your brand: Your business name should accurately reflect what your brand stands for. It should be easy to remember, easy to spell, and easy to pronounce. Adding keywords to the end of a name may improve its search engine ranking, but it won’t necessarily improve your brand recognition or reputation.
- Conduct keyword research: Before deciding on a business name, it is important to conduct keyword research to identify the terms that people are using to search for businesses like yours. This will help you to choose a name that is relevant to your target audience and includes the keywords that are most likely to be used in searches.
- Use descriptive titles and meta descriptions: Once you have chosen a business name, be sure to use descriptive titles and meta descriptions on your website. These should include the keywords that you want to rank for, as well as a clear description of your business and its services.
- Focus on high-quality content: Ultimately, the best way to improve your SEO ranking is to focus on producing high-quality content that is relevant to your target audience. This will help to attract more traffic to your website and improve your overall search engine ranking.
Conclusion
While adding words to the end of a business name can have some benefits for SEO, it is not necessarily the best approach for every business. By focusing on choosing a name that reflects your brand, conducting keyword research, using descriptive titles and meta descriptions, and producing high-quality content, you can improve your SEO ranking in a more sustainable and effective way.

Can you add words to the end of your business name for SEO purposes? That is the question I am answering today. It was asked by a username ching ching. He wrote, “I have a hauling business in California, and I wanted to add hauling and junk removal after the business name. I want to do that for SEO purposes. Do I need a DBA? Do they allow special characters?” Let’s talk about this.
Once you have a business name, you can use that along with product lines, product names, service names, etc. For example, your company might be Nike Inc., and you could then say Nike Inc. Shoes on a sign, or you could get a DBA for Nike Inc. that just says, Nike. And then you could use Nike shoes for Nike Apparel. In other words, you don’t need a DBA for every product or service that you offer. You just need a DBA to stop using the Inc. or LLC at the end. So a common approach is first to get a DBA to drop the Inc or LLC at the end.
Now, the question here goes to the next level, and is wondering about can I get an official business name with some keywords that I want in it for SEO purposes. Generally, the answer is yes. You can set up an LLC with those keywords in it, or in this case, let’s say it is called Smith Company LLC. You might get an assumed name or a DBA for Smith Company-Hauling and Junk Removal. That way, you are legally registered with the name Smith Company Hauling and Junk Removal. And so if Google requires you to have to use your legal name in web listings, then you do actually have that as a legal name. So if you are interested in getting certain keywords or a phrase or a slogan into an official legal name, you have every right to do that through a DBA.
Now, the other part of this question is about special characters, like a hyphen. You would have to consult with your state regarding what types of characters are permitted. I believe each state has its own rules regarding special characters like hyphens, colons, periods, tildes, etc.
